Hi, I’m KARI RUSSELL.
I know what it’s like to want to feel safe, but have no idea what to do about it. Several years ago when a vehicle in our driveway was broken into, all I could think of was how close someone with malicious intent was from my sleeping children, and how unprepared I was to handle the various scenarios that could have arisen from that incident. That really jarred me, and made me take action to seek various types of training…which, unfortunately, seems to be the norm: An unfortunate or scary event happens to you or someone you know, and you decide you need to find ways to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
After the incident in my driveway, I decided to overcome my fear of firearms and learn how to shoot. Next, I started learning about situational awareness, and how to spot dangerous situations more easily in order to avoid them altogether. I realized I didn’t want to just live in fear of things happening; I wanted to feel prepared and ready in the event something happened. Add in a lot of practice and training with firearms, and my confidence went up while my fears lessened. There’s something truly empowering about not only having the ability to spot sketchy stuff and avoid it, but to defend yourself should the event arise. I then shifted my focus to enable others to experience that same feeling of empowerment, so with the help and encouragement of my family and friends, I started DAM Defense.
